BSU hosts the 5th International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications

The 5th International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications (COIA-2015) has kicked off today in Baku. The event is co-organized by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communications and High Technologies, and the Institute of Applied Mathematics of Baku State University (BSU).

Chairing the first session of the conference, Minister of Communications and High Technologies, academician Ali Abbasov said the conference is notable for its organization,  representatives of  government, academia and business have  been closely involved in its organization. Speaking about scientific theory and its putting into practice, the minister said today the issues of optimization and optimal control are brought to the forefront in decision-making and dealing with economic issues, including numerous scientific researches and designing of complex technical systems etc.

Then, addressing the conference as the host of the event, BSU rector, academician Abel  Maharramov said the  optimization and control is one of the  leading and important areas of world science.

He also noted the BSU is the first educational establishment in Azerbaijan which is engaged in research in the field of nanotechnologies.

Abel Maharramov said in recent years, about 90 programs and grant projects are realized each year in the field of science and education by BSU scientists. These research works are carried out in collaboration with a number of leading universities in the world. Abel Maharramov noted the fact that to date BSU has concluded cooperation agreements with more than 300 universities in 60 countries of the world, the university is a member of several prestigious associations and ranks high in the international rankings.

At the end of his speech, Abel Maharramov awarded a diploma “Friend of the University” to Minister Ali Abbasov  for his active participation in the organization of the conference, calling  him   “Friend of Science”. Foreign professors participating in the conference were awarded diploma “Guest of Honour”.

277 scientists from 26 countries have been registered at the conference, and conferees are expected to hear about 200 reports during the conference.
